A: Cris
Q: When and why did you first become interested in gymnastics?
A: When I was little, I had lots of extra energy so my mom signed me up for gymnastics. I started classes at Gymcats in the first grade, and I’ve been there ever since.
Q: When did you decide you wanted to compete?
A: I decided to compete at my first meet because my coach told me she’d buy me a candy bar if I did well. I’ve wanted to compete at a high level ever since I saw the 2008 Olympics.
Q: What is your training regimen?
A: Currently, I train more than 25 hours a week.
Q: What is your favorite event?
A: It depends on the day; most of the time, I actually like them all.
Q: What is your favorite skill?
A: I love doing my gainer 1.5 on beam.
Q: What music do you use for your floor routine?
A: My friend Risa Perez choreographed my current floor routine. She created a mix that’s really bouncy and fun.
Q: Who is your favorite gymnast or who is your “idol”?
A: I loved watching McKayla Maroney and Nastia Liukin compete, and I still get chills when I watch their videos from the Olympics.
Q: What are your biggest accomplishments or best memories in your career?
A: Qualifying to the Nastia Cup!
Q: What grade are you in school, and where do you go to school?
A: I’m a junior, graduating Class of 2018 from Green Valley High School.
Q: Do you want to compete in collegiate gymnastics?
A: YES! I’m committed to the University of Arizona.
Q: When you’re not in the gym, how do you enjoy spending your time? Do you have any hobbies or favorite activities? Charities?
A: I love biking and hiking. I love baking and naps. I absolutely love playing with dogs, but I’m allergic.

A: I love comedies and PIXAR movies.

Q: Do you have any competition rituals? Lucky charms?
A: I like brushing my teeth before a meet because smiling at the judges with fresh teeth always helps.
Q: What’s on your iPod right now? What type of music do enjoy listening to? How about before a meet when you’re trying to get focused and pumped up?
A: Bruno Mars gets me pumped up for meets, and I love some of Taylor Swift’s songs (Shake it Off!).
